INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGES IN STEM EDUCATION

With generous support from Myera, Inc., two scoping literature reviews are being undertaken by the BU CARES research team on the use of virtual reality in STEM education, with a specific focus on Indigenous education and curriculum integration. This stage of the project is aimed at exploring the potential benefits and challenges of using virtual reality technology in STEM education and examining the ways in which it can be used to enhance educational experiences for Indigenous students. Keep your eye on this page for an upcoming report which will include:

1) an overview of the project,

2) an overview of the current uses of virtual reality in both education and industry,

3) an overview of Indigenous virtual reality currently in use,

4) lessons learned from Indigenous virtual reality and virtual reality within the field of education, including best practices and how they can be applied,

6) ethical considerations, and,

7) key recommendations.

A second scoping review of Indigenous STEM content in curriculum documents (both across Canada and internationally) is also being undertaken, and will be woven into the VR content above.

These literature reviews will provide insights into the use of virtual reality technology in STEM education, with a specific focus on Indigenous education and curriculum. The findings will inform the development of future research and the implementation of virtual reality technology in STEM education for Indigenous students.
